The Van Fleet Trail is the best ride of any Florida trail. The pavement is good, not many people, lots of wildlife, a good deal of shade, and the beauty of old Florida. There are 3 bridges in the Green Swamp where you can usually see a few alligators and only one 2 lane highway to cross. We typically ride from the PolkCity trailhead out to 20 miles and return. It's the best 40 mile ride that I can find in Florida.

This side of the trail has more activity (pedestrian and bicycles) there is a nature's trail that can be explored on foot. Great for an outdoor adventure with exercise. Roads crossing the trail break it in sections of about 5 miles each. Wildlife viewing opportunities and encounters: turtles, snakes, armadillos, birds, and etc.

We love this trail. At 29 miles, the trail is pretty long, at least for us, and is a straight out and straight back. We prefer a trail that circles around but I can't complain. We have two adult riders, two kid riders, and one baby in a carrier and all have enjoyed it. There's a fair share of serious bicyclist who fly by but most have been very nice about passing/going around us. The scenery isn't the Rocky Mountains or the California coast but offers enough change and views of nature/wild life to keep the 29 miles interesting. The trail is partly shaded which is great for a straight shot type trail since others in the area can be hot. My only knock is I wish it had more restrooms along the way but that might only be an issue if you're taking kids. All in all, I recommend this trail with a solid thumbs up.

Flat and really long, but great for road cycling

Great bike trail: rural Florida, dead straight, dead flat. Bring your own water and snacks. Restrooms 10 miles apart.
